Just bought a MSI A6000 laptop

I just bought a MSI A6000 laptop. bought it with windows 7 ultimate and upgraded it to windows 10 pro. it seemed to have a junk battery so got one on amazon. now the issue is sometimes it works on battery for a couple minutes and other times it shuts off as soon as it is unplugged. kinda thinking i may have got a defective battery from amazon or maybe there is some kind of battery learn it has to do. thinking about leaving it on all day and then unplug it tonight and let it sleep all night on battery then see what happens, may find out how to get a replacement thru amazon too if need be.

A possibility is that one or more Win 10 supplied drivers is incompatible with your hardware.
It seems unlikely 2 batteries would be faulty.

Did you check the first battery when Win 7 was still installed?

Many reports of such issues on numerous laptop types.

    - a BIOS upgrade worked

    - a different approach worked

    You could:
    - search the MSI forum or ask a question
    - search to see if anyone has had a similar experience
    - restore Win 7 and see if the batter works then (e.g. on a different disk if available to keep your Win 10, or image your Win 10 so you can restore it)

If you upgraded from Win 7, you have 10 days in which you can restore it automatically - 'Go back to the previous build', or perhaps there's a manufacturer's recovery partition, else you'd need to clean install Win 7.

I decided to do something crazy with it last night, a friend of mine asked if I changed the cmos battery which I of course didn't, told him sometimes the voltage gets so low on them that the computer wont ask to have the date and time reset but will act strange.... well since i have a bunch of CR2032 batteries laying around I thought why not and see what happens. i replaced it with a new one, reset the date and time and then let the computer boot up. it seems to boot faster and now it seems to work on battery power. hopefully it stays doing that. seems strange that a tiny battery would cause such strange issues but anything is possible. the voltage of the old cmos batter was just over 1 volt... like 1.12 volts on the dvom.

Good thinking. It's really a shame there never seems to be any sort of check - e.g. voltage monitor- on that so as to give an alert.

it just seems strange that it would cause that issue, show the battery as installed and charged, let the laptop sleep ok on battery but then act up when actually trying to use the laptop on battery. almost like my truck when the plug for the body control module was loose all sort of strange things would act up like the climate control changing temps on its own or the radio showing locked then working again after a bump... these electronics are too sensitive i think.

1.12V is extremely low.. nominally 3V. Seems some DELL machines monitored the voltage from a quick scan.
