Run dialog box doesn't remember history

ID:	205073All of a sudden my Run dialog box is empty. The icons on the left of the image are just part of my desktop. Also, if I put in something like "control printers" or gpedit.msc, they open, but the Run dialog box is empty the next time. I haven't made any updates recently, except Windows Defender. Any ideas how to correct this?
    Thanks in advance,

Additional: I ran sfc /scannow & got this message:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

The CBS.log file is huge & I don't know what I'm looking for. Any advice?
    Thanks again,

Hi, start with some elementary basic checks, then an in-place upgrade repair install.
Whilst there are other things you could try, you could end up spending a lot of time unnecessarily.

    1. First check your disk(s):

Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial)
Post a screenshot of its GUI using the Insert Image icon above your post.
If all disks are reported as good, continue.

    2. Now check your file system:

From an admin command or powershell prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:

    or

Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

    3. An In-place upgrade repair install will fix many things, but not those where the settings are not changed by the procedure, or user account corruption.

Note: if you are using build 1803, follow the above. If you have an older build, please post back.

    Run dialogue history:
    See:
Tweak the History in the Run Dialog Box in Windows
    (I searched for
    disable "run history")

Same here but it's been like that thru last few insider builds so going back is not an option. I still didn't find a cure for it.

@ Phrab Hi, is yours an insider build? @CountMike - hi, could you clarify, which problem are you experiencing - SFC failing or no Run history?
    Thanks

    try:

1: Enable "Let Window track app launch"
Turn On or Off App Launch Tracking in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

    then:

2: Enable "Most Used Apps from Start Menu"
Add or Remove Most Used Apps from Start Menu in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

This procedure enabled the RUN history dialog which was blank on my PC. This only happened because I had turned off "Let Windows track app launch" for privacy purposes (this in turn had disabled/grayed out "Most used Apps from Start Menu").

    Hello @phrab,

In addition, check that you have Address bar checked in Internet Options "AutoComplete Settings" like below.

This worked, can't reboot now because of some work to see if it will stay in next session.

I don't know what changed it to off, I didn't.

Edit, it remembers commands even after reboot. !!! This bothered me for a while now.

Turning off "Let Window track app launch" will clear the history, so you'll have to start over once turned back on.

Thanks to all that replied. I was away from my computer today, but found:
the fix at https://winaero.com/blog/fix-run-doe...in-windows-10/. Go to Settings > Privacy > General & make sure you turn on “Let Windows track app launches to improve Start and search results”. Then go to Settings > Personalization > Start & turn on “Show most used apps”.

I see everyone beat me to the punch. Thanks again.
