Shortcuts Icons Turn White When Moved

Hi. For some shortcuts that I have placed on the desktop when I move them to a different folder they shortcut icon turns white. This does not happen for every application where I will move the shortcut but for some.

Example: GPU-Z icon on desktop looks fine. Moved to "Game" folder on desktop now it is a blank white icon. MSI Afterburner icon on desktop look fine. Moved to "Game" folder on desktop and icon is retained. Just coming off a fresh install of Windows.

    Hello Andy,

If the shortcut still works, then you might see if refreshing (F5) the folder may toggle it to show properly.

If not, then you could see if rebuilding the icon cache may sort it.

Hi Brink. Shortcut still works. Checked target for shortcut but was confused, it showed it was in Windows32, and I left things alone. Refresh did not work. I think I have your "rebuild icon cache" tutorial memorized. That usually works at least for past desktop icon arrangement issues on reboot (don't know about icons in a folder not displaying) but I am going to hold off since I just finished a fresh install (ugh) and want to see what it will do.

I actually just copied and pasted the original .exe from the program folder to where I wanted and that worked fine but then on the second one the program folder icons were broken too. Don't know where originals are. I think in AppData>Roaming.

Now after fresh install upon reboot icons stay put (jinx).

    Thank you as always.
