    Desktop Icon for Notepad file

I have created a small file in Notepad and saved it on the desktop.

The icon just shows a blank icon, rather than the proper icon image it used to show.

Every other desktop icon shows properly. Please advise a fix for this.

    Win 10 Home.

If you double click the file, does it open in Notepad?

(That's an elementary check on txt file association)

This free program lets you see this easily.

Yes it opens the file Notepad. If I create a shortcut to the file, that shorcut shows the correct icon.

Which "free program lets you see this easily"?

It's shown in the title bar -Default...

You could try this to rebuild your icon cache:
    - go to :
    • C:\Users\*Your USER ACCOUNT*\AppData\Local
(make sure hidden files/folders are visible)
    • Delete iconCache.db (hidden file)

    • Reboot
