    Firefox and Open Office suddenly started crashing


    Over the last couple of weeks, Open Office and Firefox have both started spontaneously crashing between 5 and 10 times per day. When first troubleshooting the OO problem (which corrupted a file when it crashed), somebody suggested that the problem was due to a Windows 10 update. I have uninstalled the most recent update and turned off automatic updates but the crashing problem persists. Is there indeed a problematic Win10 update and, if so, what can be done about it?

    Hi, it's possible to uninstall and 'Hide' (as in Win 7 = block) a particular update (Tutorial available, or Windows Update Minitool (free) ).

    However note that since updates are cumulative, the subsequent update would include the same update content.

    Have a look at your Reliability History (type reli in the search field).
    Examine relevant red x's for the detail of a crash.

    I suggest you also do a routine disk check e.g. Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) gives an excellent GUI summary (SSDs too).

    Run chkdsk:
    From an admin command or powershell prompt
    [Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
    Your PC will need to restart.
    Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
