Your thread caused me to do some reading. I'm thinking it has to do with UEFI and its use of NVRAM. I would have to try some things to prove or disprove.
I'm going to guess if you go back in BIOS and go back to legacy booting you could swap disks. (Prevent UEFI) This would likely mean some messing around with the installs up to a reinstall. Saw a neat idea where you macrium reflect your entire drive, do a clean install (MBR) and then restore the Windows C: partition alone. All would have to be tested.
Should you stay with Windows please consider using a disk Imaging tool like Macrium Reflect. Free, reliable and saves a huge amount of time.
