    Lenovo X200

I have a Lenovo X200 laptop I got at a garage sale for a crazy price of $5.00. It has a 2.4 C2D processor, 8gb of ram, had 4 when I got it but had the 8gb laying around so installed it, a 80gb hd which I am going to change and had windows 7 pro on it now has windows 10 pro version 1803. Running ESET internet security. seems to run windows 10 like really well and fairly quick too. my question is would it be worth upgrading the hd to a ssd drive and get used to the stupid pointing stick instead of a real track pad or use the wireless mouse it came with or look for another laptop with an i7 and start over

Yes, it would. I've got an X220 Tablet that's still serving me very, very well. You might want to check to see if the unit has a PCIe WWAN interface slot like my X220 does. It will accommodate an M.2 SSD so you can even add another solid state drive if you were so inclined. Good purchase!

my roommate is kinda saying the same thing, because I was talking to someone who works at the starbucks I go to who just bought a new dell latitude with the i7 and 8gb and ssd and thinking about getting rid of his fujitsu lifebook 17 inch with a first or second gen i7, 4gb of ram and a regular hd i was interested in... my roommate basically said umm this fujitsu is like twice the weight and since you carry it around all day i would think you would want something lighter like the x200 is, plus it doesnt seem that much faster and you really dont know what issues you may be getting, if it was so great why did he get a new one working at a $8.00 an hour job. problem is i do not think i can ever get used to that damn pointing stick.... if it had a real track pad it would be a great little laptop

It wouldn't hurt to replace the battery. You may get an additional 2 hours of battery life that way.

i am thinking about doing the ssd upgrade and maybe a battery since those are cheap on amazon, i would really like this little laptop since it is lightweight if it had a trackpad instead of the pointing stick.... dont think i will ever be able to get used to it, much harder to use than a track pad

What's wrong with using an external mouse? You can get compact, lightweight meese that work well. I use a Logitech Ultrathin Bluetooth mouse with my X220 Tablet, and it works like a charm: here's a refurb model from Newegg for US$35.

looks like i am going to be stuck with this x200.... found a fujitsu 17 inch with a second generation i7 and 16gb of ram for $75.00 that the owner had to get rid of immediately, he couldnt wait until yesterday evening to meet so i sent a friend of mine to go get it, my friend said although it looked like a nice laptop, the person was acting so sketchy at the meeting place saying hurry up i am not supposed to be within 500 feet of a school and every time he saw a squad car drive by he acted really nervous and more in a rush. my friend said since he was acting like a possible sex offender he refused to buy the laptop... wtf now i have to suffer with a laptop that is slightly slower than that one would have been just because of my friends cautions,,,, looks like i will not be talking to him ever again

Sounds very much like a registered sex offender. If he had been caught with a laptop, he probably would have been sent back to prison. (I'm familiar with this because the brother of a friend has been in and out of prison over the past 10 years for violations of his sex offender status. He isn't even permitted to borrow "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on DVD from the local library, because the main character is supposed to be a high school girl.)

The laptop may not have been stolen, but I think that your friend did the safe thing.
