cold starts having issues to load win10 properly, takes very long etc

    hey everyone,

first of all, if this topic happens to be in the wrong section or if the title isn't clear enough please feel free to move / edit it.

Alright so here's the thing. Whenever i do a cold start (that means turning on computer when it was completly down) it takes several minutes to finish booting. The first sign for it is (always) at the start screen taking ages, the taskbar isn't loaded properly (meaning all the stuff i got fixed there isnt shown, volume, internet etc isn't there aswell).

So when its done loading and booting i usualy can do whatever i want without any issues BUT left or right clicking onto the volume control since this won't do anything. Sound and stuff is still there and working properly and i can adjust it as i please if i open the options from another place (like system) but thats about it.

When i do a regular restart, everything is "fixed" and the reboot just takes a few seconds which it used to be before. I also can reproduce the problem as much as i want, i just need to turn off the computer completly and boot em up.

So what happend? I don't know ^^ I just made a fresh windows installation after 2 years because the system became unstable (kernel id 41 crash on a regular basis, had one 2 days ago too).

I never had those issues before i made the fresh installation so all that just came up with the new one.
I'd be realy happy if i can find a solution and a fix for my problem.

    Thanks alot in advance.

    Hi Smallfoe.

A cold boot is not what you think it is, it is anything but cold.

Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

A restart on the other hand is a fresh copy of windows.

    Try disabling Windows Fast Startup.

If you want a quick way to test, hold shift key down and click shutdown. This bypasses the process and you get a fresh copy of windows when you press power button.

    Hi Caledon Ken,

thanks alot for the fast reply and the quick help. I still don't understand why it's acting up like this now cause it didn't before but it seems like you fixed the problem in one go :)
I did as you said and it did boot as it used to before i did the fresh install of windows.

I guess i can mark this one as solved. if something should i change i'd like to come here and ask for help again :)

Thumbs up for you of course :)

Have a look a your Windows Update history. At the bottom it lists drivers it updated to "Help" you.

If one got installed recently it is likely the cause. Roll back driver and tell windows to layoff the driver updates.

    This tutorial option 4.

Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

Let us know if there were driver updates, would be interested.

    Thanks for the thumbs up.

at the moment it lists only 2 updates, can't see anymore than that. Non of them is a driver update ( cumulative update and flash security update)

Well I guess you could uninstall both, reverse the changes and see if it acts normal.

If you are happy with boot speeds maybe just leave it.

Try performing a boot trace and post the result here - some kind soul will probably decode it for you. See Slow Login After 1803 Upgrade

You need the Application Development kit.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...ed/adk-install

Then you can read this thread.

Windows boot waaaay slow since two days ago

My link takes you into the thread. Please read thread.

If you get then you need someone to read. I've never done this but as you were asking. If you decide to do, we can look into getting it read.
