New HP Probook with Win 10 Pro Education

I bought this product from Newegg last month: HP ProBook 430 G5. At the time it was advertised to have Win 10 Pro not Win 10 Pro Education version. It's past the 30 day return policy before I realized it had the Education version. Will having this version of Win 10 Pro cause me any issues such as future feature updates?

First, congratulations. ProBooks are quite good, I'm writing this post on 470 G5.

You should be OK, subject to Windows being properly activated. I'm just a bit surprised, Pro Education should not be pre-installed on devices sold to consumers.

Please allow me to ask if you are absolutely sure about the edition? If you go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation, what edition is shown there?

Once a Windows 10 PC has got the digital license for a specific edition, that edition will get automatically activated when re-installed. As far as I can understand this, you really have no issues there.

Kari - Thank you. I trust your understanding as I have read many of your responses on this forum over the last few years. I don't have a Phd in malt based liquids but I have earned my Masters.

    You are welcome.

There's just this one thing that I am wondering: I have never before heard that a normal retailer sells computers with Pro Education license to private users.

What edition does the COA sticker on back side of the laptop say?

Kari, Sorry I haven't replied sooner but I've been out town. Here is what is on the back and on the activation page:

I wonder what showkeyplus would reveal.

This feels like a previous MAK activation, and it seems MAK activations now get a digital licence.

I have never heard of Pro Education keys on sale to public.

I reckon seller is being naughty but from OP's viewpoint everything is fine and nothing to worry about as digital licences remain in force in perpetuity on same device.

Can't get a better licence really?

In Showkeyplus next to Product Name it says "Windows 10 Pro" Interesting that the word education is not there.

HP do seem to offer Education pre-installed as one of the options...

    Operating system
    Windows 10 Pro 64 – HP recommends Windows 10 Pro. 1
Windows 10 Pro (National Academic License) 1,2
    Windows 10 Home 64 1
    Windows 10 Home Single Language 64 1
    FreeDOS 2.0

2 Note: Some devices for academic use will automatically be updated to Windows 10 Pro Education with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
