Regrettably, you cannot upgrade builds on a usb flash drive (not tried for a while), so wintousb is mostly suitable for clean installs.
    Hi there
Windows normal updates do work BTW. I think though creating a new build doesn't take too long - I read somewhere though if you can find the appropriate place in the registry which notifies the upgrade process (not the standard windows update) that it's not a removable device then I believe the upgrade might work. I think I've seen on some forum (can't remember where though) how people have managed to get the standard Windows to Go to upgrade by fiddling with the registry.

For cloning running UEFI system this is what you get after creating just 1 EFI partition (format FAT32) and an NTFS primary partition

Getting the same error message even with the MCT ISO. Best guess is its because I'm running Enterprise on this PC?

    Hi there
    @alphanumeric

Tested on another machine running W7 enterprise (don't have W10 enterprise)

I got error as above so I suspect because you are running on Enterprise the software won't work.

Question though -- if you've got enterprise why not create standard Windows to go from the enterprise edition -- there's links all over the web about how to create Windows to Go (standard) on a non certified device.

Thats the rub, it won't let me use my thumb drive because its not set as a "fixed disk". Its set as removable media and the Official WTG rejects it. The official WTG thumb drives have the fixed disk bit set in their firmware.

And just to rub it in. The official utility if fine with letting me use an old 5400 RPM IDE laptop drive in a USB enclosure.

Did a change product key and switched back to Pro.
WinToUSB is now working, will see if the drive works when its done.
Wouldn't let me do an Enterprise install though, had to go with Pro. If I have to activate I'll try my MSDN MAK key

The real pisser is that there is no longer any reason to insist users use WTG drives - the reason originally was Windows would not handle multiple partitions on flash drives. WTG drives get round that by fooling the OS they are a fixed drive (like your old hard drive).

Since 1703, windows handles multiple partitions on a removable flash drive.

The Enterprise restriction is purely artificial now!

MS try and justify not changing by saying WTG drives are specced to a higher quality. That is complete bs as they never stop windows being installed on any old cheap and nasty device. I bet a zillion strips of latinum, it is simply because they had a cozy relationship with the WTG drive vendors!

@Cereberus: please consider this observation. The Hasleo WinToUSB product says "free -- for non-commercial use only." Could it be that the developers simply decided by fiat that Enterprise can't possibly be "non-commercial" and they disallow it for that reason? Sure, you can get Enterprise through a variety of means for test use (MSDN, Insider program, and so forth) but perhaps they didn't consider that? Just a thought ... or two.

I do believe what he is referring to, is that the Official WTG utility will only let you create an Enterprise WTG drive. You can't create a Pro or Education WTG drive for example. Even though both those Editions have the official utility in Control Panel.
