System won't sleep (correctly) or shutdown--only restart

I have, for me, an unusual problem for which I've tried all the usual (and some unusual) fixes. None work. When my computer first boots or restarts, all of the normal methods (idle time, closing lid, or selecting among the power options) produce the right results: sleep, shutdown, or restart (I have long had hibernation disabled). The results of powercfg -requests after this first successful sleep shows no requests except for PERFBOOST: [DRIVER] Legacy Kernel Caller Power Manager. Now perhaps that's normal and this driver was involved in waking the computer moments before. In any case, powercfg -requests a minute later shows no request at all. At this point, if I close the lid, the screen goes black but the computer stays on, revs up (with activity I clearly can't see) and I can shut it down only by pushing the power button for 10 seconds. Selecting shutdown, after the one allowed successful sleep, immediately restarts the computer. If, instead of attempting shutdown or put the computer to sleep, I open the Power Options and switch to either of the other two plans (it doesn't matter which I start with or which I attempt to switch to), the computer immediately restarts (the plan I select, causing the restart, nevertheless becomes the active plan). Simply by switching power plans a restart!

I've reset by bios to default settings. Reset all the power plans to defaults. Powercgf /wake_armed = none. All of my drivers are up to date (except the graphics, which I downgraded to see whether they were the issue). In fact, the problem started after getting the latest AMD A10 8700P+Radeon R6 drivers. I wiped away all evidence of that install and cleanly installed the previous drivers that worked. So everything above occurred with and without the those drivers, but the install process, at least, may have prompted a change that remains. Though the details of the powercfg sleep study are beyond my knowledge grade, I've attached two of them.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I just noticed another odd symptom. I'm adding this because odd symptoms are often the best guides. My keyboard is backlit; fn+f10 turns it off and on. When I rebooted, before I used the one good instance of sleep-mode I get, I noticed that my keyboard's light was off—I always keep it on. I turned it on, closed the lid to put the computer in sleep mode (which worked, this being the first time), and when it woke up, the KB light was off. I attempted to shutdown, but it restarted, as previously described. The light was still off when it rebooted. I tried two more times. Both times: I turn on the KB light, go into sleep mode, come out (with the [DRIVER] Legacy Kernel Caller Power Manager request in powercfg) of sleep and the light was off, tried to sleep again and it failed. Going into sleep mode each first time after restart seems to remove diverse functions.

I had a new Dell Laptop that had serious sleep issues for several months until Dell did a firmware update. You might check to see if there are any updates for your system.

Thanks for the reply, Garyw. Unfortunately, there has been no BIOS update in nearly 2 years, which I installed as soon as it was released.

No. No devices are. (I left out part of the powercfg command the original post. It should have been powercfg /devicequery wake_armed = none.)

Ok! I have the power issues pinpointed better by disabling both AMD High Definition Audio Device & Realtek Audio. If either of them is enabled, I get one good nap following by crashes. So I'm assuming that some other component connected to audio further upstream is involved. After the Realtec crashed the system, when it was re-enabled (with AMD HD Audio re-disabled), I got an error report:

I had some high CPU issues with audiodg a couple of months ago that resolved by turning off the "hey Cortana" feature. Of course, the actual problem could be further upstream from audiodg. Most of my recent computer problem coincide with a week or two after the date on the present version of this file.
Any suggestions on how to proceed? Is it possible to get a previous version of audiodg from MS?

I was facing the same issue until found an "Allow this device to wake the computer" option (don't know how) checked, on Device manager/Network adapters--> "Power Management" tab.

You may open Device manager, check if any device has this option checked (mice and keyboard should always be checked) and if you find out any, uncheck it.

    Thanks for the reply, HeM.

That doesn't seem to be my issue. My network adapters have that option checked, and the computer can go to sleep or shutdown just fine. It's only when I have one of the two sound devices enabled that choosing sleep or shutdown restarts the computer (but only the second time I attempt to put the computer to sleep. The first time it works fine). I've attached a dump file for the audiodg.exe crash of half an hour ago--I had downgraded my Realtek drivers to the Dell recommended version, but that didn't help. I can glean no new information from the dump but someone with more knowledge might be able to.
