If you are unable to run the Kyhi boot rescue to test the drive then use the windows 10 iso and enter the commands in the prior post. Please use a camera to take pictures and post images of the commands and results into the thread.

I copied the files from the Kyhi ISO onto my flashdrive (FAT32 formatted). I changed the system boot to external device and changed the priority to boot from external device. When I startup the computer I get a message saying "invalid disk, replace and strike any key".

Before I go any further with the boot from the external flashdrive -- I have started that process but it appears that the PC is attempting to reload windows 10. I am getting a Windows Setup screen asking for install language, time and currency, keyboard, etc. So does this mean that I will be losing all of my data if I continue to boot from the external flashdrive? Has it already begun to wipe my computer since this setup screen has started? I have not pressed the enter key for the next screen so I am very concerned that I am about to wipe all of my files and programs if I continue.

When using the windows 10 iso there are two options:

    a) install
    and
    b) repair your computer

See the prior post with the commands.

Click on install is the method for a clean install which removes all data or all partitions.

When troubleshooting windows look in the left lower corner and click repair your computer.

Then choose language, time, currency, and keyboard.
    Then click troubleshoot.

The FAT32 partition on the USB flash drive needs to be marked as active in order for it to be bootable. The commands are:
    diskpart
    list disk
select disk # <-replace # with the actual number of the USB flash drive.
    select part 1
    active
    exit
    exit

It does not give me an option for repair -- when it boots it goes directly to a windows setup menu. The flash drive I am using is the one I mentioned in my post. To make sure I have the correct ISO, I went to the link in the earlier post as follows: Download Windows 10.

I downloaded the tool and followed the instructions for downloading to install on a different PC -- to my flash drive. I inserted the flash drive and started the PC. The very first screen that appeared is the Windows setup menu that asks for the information I relayed in my previous reply. There was no other screen that appeared that had an option for install versus repair.

I removed the flash drive and powered off my computer before I went any further -- I then sent my message about my concerns. There are 4 folders on the flash drive (boot; efi; sources; and, support) and there are 4 files (autorun with system information; bootmgr; bootmgr.efi; and the setup application). I am going to download once more to the flash drive and try again to make sure I did not do something wrong.

When the computer is powered on it can boot to the windows 10 iso.
It may take 5 to 10 minutes for the iso to load while viewing the Microsoft Windows icon.
Once the iso loads the first menu should be to select language, time, currency, and keyboard.
The next menu should be the options with install and repair your computer.
The left lower corner repair your computer option should be chosen.
    Then click troubleshoot.
    Then start with startup repair
    Then system restore
    Then command prompt
    See the prior post

OK. I wanted to make sure I was not about to lose all of my data and apps. I will reinsert the flash drive and reboot the PC.

I am just getting back to this so I want to attempt to retrieve my information but I want to make sure I am understanding the instructions from you. Once I install the usb and get to the repair option and let it run I am supposed to raise an elevated cmd prompt, correct? Next I am to type in the commands 1 at a time and hit enter after each command, correct? Additionally, I am supposed to take a picture of each result and send all of the pics when it has completed, correct?

More importantly, if I do all of these things my data will not be lost, correct? I have been afraid to move forward because I am not sure I completely understand what I am being instructed to do and so I do not want to make a mistake and lose my data.

Is your suggestion that I load the "winpese-x64-14393_17.01.16" ISO (1.2GB) file onto a flashdrive, plug in that flashdrive and boot the system (striking the F2 key upon startup for Sony Vaio)?
You don't copy the files to the USB Flash drive, you have to burn the ISO file to a USB Flash drive with a program like Rufus, in my signature. Once the burn is complete put the USB Flash Drive in the Sony, Restart and press F2 at bootup. How to Access the BIOS for Sony Vaio Laptops | Techwalla.com This should boot you into Setup (Bios) go to the Security tab and turn off Secure Boot or Fast Boot, if it is there. Then go to the Boot tab, Your USB drive should show there by manufacturer, or as a USB Device. Move this to the First Boot Device, Save and Exit.
On Restart the computer should boot from the Kyhi Boot Flash drive. Here you will be able to browse your C: drive outside of Windows and you can copy and paste your personal files from there to an External HDD to back them up.
Then start the Macrium Reflect app on the desktop and choose to Repair Windows Boot Problems on the left panel.
