How drag an icon to the quick start area of the Taskbar

I have a program icon on my Desktop and would like to drag it to the Quick Start area of the Taskbar (the area second from the right of the screen / to the left of the system tray or notification area.) I've tried left clicking and dragging - and right clicking and dragging - but the area won't accept the icon. I must be doing something wrong but don't know what. Please help.

    Hello Nisko,

Did you mean "Quick Launch" instead?

Add or Remove Quick Launch toolbar in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

If so, you could copy/move the shortcut to the "Quick Launch folder to add it.

If you like, the tutorial below adds a Send to > Quick Launch context menu to make this easier as needed.

    Added a screenshot

Thanks, Brink. I always forget what to call the areas on my Taskbar. So I added a screenshot to show the area I'm referring to. I want to be able to drag (or place) an icon in the area with the red arrow. Thank you.How drag an icon to the quick start area of the Taskbar-quick-launch-08.20.2018.jpg

That looks like the normal taskbar area. Are you able to "Pin to taskbar" the program shortcut?

I have tried to drag with both a left click and a right click the Desktop shortcut - but can't get the icon to stick in that area. I get the small red circle with a diagonal line telling me that I can't do it.

    What's the program icon for?

Right click on the icon, click on "Properties", and post a screenshot of its "General" tab to see what may be the issue.

There are six tabs on the Properties window. Which do you want in the screenshot?

The "General" tab would be good for now.

Do you see a Pin to taskbar option like below when you right click on the shortcut?

If not or it doesn't work, then click on the Shortcut tab, and click on Open File Location button. Next, see if you see Pin to taskbar when you right click on the thunderbird.exe file.
