.processed file extension added to many files

    .processed file extension added to many files


    I searched online, but have found absolutely nothing that helps!

    Just noticed that a lot of my files suddenly have a double extension. Somehow .processed was added to the original extension. All the files affected seem to be in the "Downloads" folder, as far as I can tell.

    If I delete the .processed, the file can be opened again, but it's a lot of files (all kinds) and I have no idea why this happened.
    Is there a way to take off the .processed with a batch file somehow? (Am not experienced in writing this myself)

    Does anyone know how this happened and how I can prevent it from happening again?

    There are plenty of batch renamers around if you wished to use one:
    JoeJoe's freeware utilities - [Rename Master]
    - simpler one (free)
    Advanced Renamer - Free and fast batch rename utility for files and folders
    (free for personal use)
    CyLog Software - WildRename
    free
    usually with the advantage you can preview what you have selected.

    You can also use Powershell e.g.

    References to '.processed' (very few, obscure) - note Google search strips the . so need to use other means...

    Did you download a program and install it from the download folder? Check the time stamps. Files could have been generated during an install.
