Screen Flicker on Boot After Windows Update

    Hi,

I updated to KB4343909 (OS Build 17134.228) yesterday and now when my pc boots the brand name comes up, then the screen flashes off and on and the brand name is back up again and normal boot resumes.

Anyone else see this occurrence or have any ideas?

If it is showing the computer brand from the Bios and does it again before Windows comes up, then the OS is doing some housekeeping.

Enable Verbose boot for troubleshooting. Enable Verbose or Highly Detailed Status Messages in Windows

I ended up using the DM Log Tool and no minidumps or memory dumps were found.

The flicker stopped after installing today's Spectre microcode update. I'd think another issue was causing the problem and the microcode has nothing to do with it but I restart pretty often and this is the first time the flicker had ceased. It's possible it stopped before this and I just did not notice.

Perhaps the OS was just doing some housekeeping but it happened on ~10 restarts.

The log collectors were never posted.
If you post them they can be troubleshooted.

I am not going to post them now since it is functioning normally again. But in the future if I need to I'd like to be able to PM them if that is okay.

Would a microcode security update affect something in the bios post (I think it is called that) routine? The part when the OEM logo comes up but before the wheel starts spinning.

No, a microcode security update shouldn't affect the BIOS POST, microcode isn't really related to the BIOS since it is basically the CPUs firmware.

Alright thank you. That is what I had assumed is this is an Intel thing but didn't know if it was some communication between CPU and BIOS.
