    Windows Explorer Shows Disc with MORE space used than is used by files


    I am hoping someone can help me. I am operating a Dell Precision 5520 that is a 2 - 3 years old. I have 500G harddive - that shows about 453G that is usable.

    Of the 453G - Windows Explorer is showing that I only have about 7.7G free. However, if I add up all the space required by the files/folders - I am only around 100G, meaning I should have almost 353G free. I have unhidden the hidden files (except the operating files) - so my 100G is including those hidden folders.

    I have a feeling it has something to do with previous use of dropbox, but I have searched and can't find any old unremoved dropbox folders/files.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi.
    WinDirStat Can give you a visual of your disk layout, and may help you find the culprit.
    WinDirStat - Windows Directory Statistics
    Also, this (Windows Search) has been a problem in the past:
    What is the Windows.edb file in Windows 10/8/7
    One other thing comes to mind - If you have ZoneAlarm Firewall on there, it may be creating multiple honey-pot files (I believe it's C:\SandBlastBackup) to protect against ransomware, which can eat up all kinds of space if it's not running correctly (as I found on one machine - I watched a 250GB SSD fill up right before my very eyes, in a matter of minutes!).

    Thank you for the response on this issue. I will give the WinDirStat a shot tomorrow (I am not at that computer now) - and let you know what I learn.

    I am not using ZoneAlarm - so luckily I can rule that one out.

    Sounds good. (Checkpoint Software also do the SandBlastBackup folder thing...)

Like in windows 7, we go to my computer and thereafter check the properties which include hard disc and its contents, available space as well - where is it in windows 10?
