Which windows/application services can safely run on Delayed Start?

    Hi all -

As I use and load various applications on a Win10 Pro system, it gets a bit slow after login to settle down.
I'm curious if some system services and those created by applications, i.e. Acronis, can be on Delayed Start.

It's easy to go into services.msc and change each from automatic to delayed start but what is OK to change?

I can see there is no easy way to change the Delayed Start 120 second interval to a custom value.

    Ideas? Thanks.

    Hi Compumind.

    Have you seen this article

    Black Viper's Windows 10 Service Configurations | Black Viper | www.blackviper.com

and a thread from the forum on Pros / cons

Black Viper’s Windows 10 Service Configurations (VERY USEFUL INFO)

Obviously you want to have a good restoration process worked out before trying, one that does not rely on System Restore in my opinion.

Some of the stuff started by apps is flat out not needed, I have a GPS but I don't need Garmin starting every boot. Same with logitech download assistant. I don't think anyone is going to just say shut them down. Really need to audit each individually. If the purpose of the started app is to check for updates then you could argue you don't need it all as long as you remember to check for updates regularly.

    RE: Black Viper's Windows 10 Service Configurations | Black Viper | www.blackviper.com

I only ever use service configuration tweaks marked as "safe"

RE: Autostart items other than services. I use a program to delay a few third party app entries.

    Specify delay time:

    Result:

It creates scheduled tasks to delay launch:

I'd say forget about delaying services. Just figure out if you have any third party apps launching on startup that can be delayed excluding security software.

    Download Autorun Organizer - MajorGeeks

If installing decide if you want to enable VirusTotal lookup. Decline any offers.

    1. Don't fiddle with MS services unless you really know what you are doing (very few people do)
    2. Use Autoruns to disable third party startup items / services / tasks etc.
    3. Acronis backup software is poorly engineered. Consider a more reliable program like Macrium Reflect.

    Thanks for all the information!

What I would like to do is shorten the Delayed Start interval for two processes by 1 minute each.
    Microsoft's default is 2 minutes.

Quick ideas? If it's painful, then I will forget it.

    Thanks.

You could try WinPatrol. It's not been updated since last year, and this is not it's primary use, but I'm still using it as a guard of what's changed in registry and startup.
This is windows of delayed processes (I have simply moved HP scan assistant from normal start up to delay start...)
