Holy crap, seems so basic, and think I had it this way before. From the desktop.....I started by clicking on yahoo email. Then, subsequent icons I'd click came up....and a tab would show along the top edge of the email screen next to that yahoo email tab. Then, I could click either tab to go back and forth. I could click on google 5 times, and 5 google tabs would show along the top edge of the email window.....ready to go to them to look something up, Isnt this about as simple as it gets?

Now each subsequent window fully covers over the previous one.....no tab along the top of the first one. Hard to believe this is so unusual nobody knows exactly what I'm trying to explain.

Run thru it again with chrome:

    1. Install chrome, made it default, chrome icon appeared in taskbar (if I click on it, the google search window comes up)
    2. From there, it allows making desktop shortcut. I go to 3 dots/more tools/create shortcut.....and a desktop shortcut appears.
    3. That desktop shortcut allows making a taskbar shortcut.....right click it, and click on 'pin to taskbar', and icon appears on taskbar.
    4. I make shortcuts of the ones I usually use (not many). I click on my yahoo email for the first window. When it comes up, it has an 'extra' tab to the left of the regular named tab. That extra one says 'new tab', and clicking it gives me google.
    4. Now, my yahoo email window is up (with the weird extra tab). When I click on subsequent shortcuts, when they come up, it covers over the previous/first email window, without showing a "tab" along the top of it.....plus, it has that 'extra' tab to the left of it's named tab. And that keeps happening, each one I click on covers over previous one.

Started messing with edge.....then both edge and chrome at same time...,got really screwed up....then just chrome.....then uninstalled chrome.....trying to figure out edge again......even though I had been using chrome on previous computer (not for very long).......nice mess, huh?

***EDIT*** (didn't see previous 2 posts when I posted this)

As you insist on using Desktop Shortcuts, which you have every right to do, my efforts here are wasted. All browser are built with tabs, a method to bookmark and a method for quick access, bookmark bar.

Please post your solution when you get your method to work. I'm sure there are others that would like to use.

What I want seems so simple, was just trying to have it same as I did b4. Didn't have new windows with 2 tabs on it covering over the first window.
Seems taskbar icon/shortcuts are easiest/quickest way to go to site used most often, one click. In chrome, had to do desktop shortcut first to get a takbar shortcut. Listed what I did with chrome, trying to get things same as before, but cant get there.

I'm obviously not coming up with any solution that others would like to use. Don't know what to do now.
    Thanks

Can I ask why you won't use my method?

Three start pages (or two or four) and some well place bookmarks on bookmarks bar.

Trying to see the differences between homepage/startpage, webpage google/chrome, and obviously still trying to figure out bunch of other stuff. So far, for some reason, chrome browser on this computer doesn't seem to let me do things easy way.

Turn on.....desktop....have icons on taskbar.....one click, up comes (email) first page I want to start with....subsequent pages added as tabs along top of first one. Simple? Hope I'm stating it clearly (probably repeating).

Have been trying repeatedly to do screenshot, cant do it.
I install Chrome....chrome icon appears on desktop and in taskbar.

Two screens appear. One says "thank you for downloading chrome", tab says "chrome browser", has the little 'house' next to the refresh circle-arrow. Other one says Google, the tab says 'new tab', there is no 'house', and this is the one that comes up when I click on the chrome icon that appeared in the taskbar when I installed chrome.
But a Google page icon I already had on the taskbar has the 'house'.

Please confirm you have followed this tutorial for posting screen shots.

How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums

For the record, you have describe your problem very well. Each time you click on a short cut it opens a new instance of Chrome. You want it consolidated so you have all the tabs in one session. You do not want to use bookmarks. Chrome doesn't work that way, when you click on Short cut it opens new instance of program.

Would strongly recommend you join and post on Chrome's forum. Maybe a Google employee will have immediate answer.

Read IE is on the way out, that it's better to use something more current.

Screenshots - I was looking under "Take screenshot in w10 general tips".

This is just too weird,.,...I'm not trying to do anything special, just have multiple windows open....like I had b4....like everyone else probably has.....a tab along the top for each open window.
