Elongated file names after file search

I get odd looking results after I do a file search with list view or small icons. All fine when explorer normally displays in windows 10 but it looks like the file name is padded out with some extraneous characters which are invisible. Any thoughts or is this normal?

Could someone try this please a say if they get the same results.

    Thanks John

Hi, can't see what is wrong here- could you specify the text you think is extraneous?

The one you've highlighted matches this from your 1st screenshot:

Sorry if I'm missing sthg obvious.

Sorry, I think I wasn't clear. It's not extraneous text. I assume something is hidden. The problem is with the large boxes for the file names in the second screen shot, after the search.

The tooltip? Do you want that to be smaller or different?

    - it could be the content... (aardvarks)
    - or as yours is

Basically it's trying to be helpful and show the file path, which isn't otherwise available in that view.

Hi, thanks for trying that. It looks like you are using 'Tile' view which works OK. Can you try it with 'Small Icon' view?

I did that before - the screenshot is just my default. All views seem consistent. (My build is 1709 as you can see from my specs)

What is it you don't want? The path info?

I don't understand why the files are spread out so much in my second screenshot with all that wasted space.

Hi, I can't see what's doing that in yours, but it's related to the length of the longest text - in List view only in my case (of searched results):

I only have 4 files in the second screen shot after the search, and they are all short.

What doe it look like without the long name included in the search and using 'Small Icons' view?

What's missing in the Search view is the Size options:

But yours are spaced out more like extra large icons... witness the bluish highlight for the selected area.

    What's your Windows build?
