lx07 - you convinced me, even though I know it was partly in your self interest! Since I had made brand new full backups last night to two different USB drives (one is usually offsite), I decided to try the driver update this morning. But first, I re-enabled the Intel virtualization and VT that I had disabled after Windows System Repair made it impossible to get the Dell diagnostics to let me open a command prompt. That worked fine, I guess. I really don't know if anything on this laptop uses virtualization or VT.

I could not get Dell Support Assist to run. No way, no how. Apparently, it only runs when it wants to, not when you want it to run. So yesterday it popped up when my wife was working. Today, nada.

zbook - before trying to get Support Assist to give me the driver update this morning, I ran CCleaner, both for files and registry clean. My plan was that if there were any problems, I would again disable the Intel drivers and rerun all the diagnostics you suggested and post the results. Then I'd re-install from the backup.

    Maybe next week

In the forums we see threads where ccleaner registry has been run and the computers have problems.
It seems to work in the short run but there are unexpected problems in the long run.
While its hard to establish a direct cause and effect the number of threads are significant to where many of us recommend that ccleaner registry is not performed.

Thanks for the tip. I do review all suggested registry deletions and uncheck any I don't understand or feel are safe. I don't do it that often, but I'll be even more careful in the future if I do use it.

I do run CCleaner for the basic stuff frequently but not automatically. The odd thing it finds and deletes are Edge cache and something else from Edge. It's odd because I have never used Edge. I have removed all the shortcuts to Edge. And I think there was something else I did to kill (or wound?) it when it first appeared.

The other cleanup program I like is Revo Uninstaller. It always amazes me how much junk many programs leave behind in files and registry entries even after running their own uninstall. Revo finds most of them. There, too, I carefully review what it proposed deleting after its Registry scan.
