Upgrade 1709 to 1803: my computer "gradually" freezes randomly.

That's a lot of different software.
Some are from companies and serious developers.
Some are from hobby developers (which can deliver good stuff as well, but usually don't have the means to take it to a high level).
The Nvidia card: I took it out so no problem with that now. Internal GPU is working.
    Fingers crossed.

Well, the system froze with the internal videocard as well.
So back to square one, with the knowledge it isn't NVidia that is doing this....

    What I saw:
+ IE cannot do anything, just closing tabs
+ waterfall of a HAM program: I saw it slow down and then all stopped...that was a sign for me to think it went wrong again.
+ some bleeding through video (some text remained).
    + keyboard wasn't working anymore
+ with Firefox I was able to open bookmarks. I couldn't do anything else with other programs, but FF sort of kept working, though it wasn't with a keyboard (but keyboard was stuck)
+ FireFox was the last program started (nothing after that, but was running for 16 min or so)

    Why does FireFox still work?

I am going to put back the Nvidia card (money saved, Ken, haha).
I think I will avoid FireFox for the next trial. See what happens.
And doing some signed testings, etc.
How clean can I boot without loosing too much functionality?
In 1709 it all went OK. In 1803 the problems began...….
Very tempting to really skip 1803 for now
On the other hand: I want to know what's going on ….

Well something learned, one step forward.

Is there a reason you are still using IE?

Sure its being supported, just, but real development has stopped. Maybe it is encountering something.

Good thing we have so many browsers.

Out of habit I guess I like IE for some reason.

But I ran SFC /SCANNOW and it came back with "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them."
When I look at the log, I get dizzy. A lot of entries. Is there some handy way/tool to make any sense in that ?
Could this be the holy grail?

*Next time, keep Ressource Monitor and Task Manager* open all the time. Left shift + TAB to monitor the activity permanently.

I"m not convince that you are dealing with a display driver, but with an app(s) that does not fully support 1803 yet.

You must find a witch or what causes the CPU to go crazy. Trying to upgrade with the ISO file is also a good option (setup.exe)..

You seem very good at problem resolution, so go ahead.

    All the best,
    Mike
Mike, I couldn't find what you meant with left shift, tab. Where at ?
    What does it do?

Usually I just look for errors. Easier said then done so I use this to boil the log down and output the errors (Command prompt(admin)

FINDSTR /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\desktop\sfcdetails.txt These are double quotes around [SR], Office Word uses quotes that show direction, these need to straight up and down. Only relevant if you store commands in word docs. The /c is search String switch and in this case it is looking for [SR]

Also watch date and time. CBS log can be appended to, so some dates are old and irrelevant entries.

There were Duplicate ownerships, which I guess is not a real issue.
I scanned :"repairing" and saw mscormmc.dll was corrupted. A NET Framework part.
And some package testings that weren't there etc. Not important as the action was considered "repaired" or so.
Well outcome is it says it's repaired and OK.
So will wait if the stuff will freeze now (or not)

Well...…….it went OK for 5 days and there it was again.
And I can reproduce it now.

When I start my basic HAm software, there is no problem.
But when I start a YouTube video, then it goes to freeze.
I don't know if it with all videos, but it does.
I also suspect there is one HAM software program involved as well.

Does anyone recognize this behavior or has an opinion about it ?
So (from my point of view) it goes wrong when starting (certain) videos on YouTube on IE11.
I see nothing wrong in the event viewer that I can match to this (time of occurrence etc).

I will test this certain combination with 1709 version.
So I'll go back to 1709 now and try to reproduce it there.

    You have ideas ???
    Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried FF or Chrome in this mix?

I know folks like IE but it's day has come and gone.

    No I did not.
    You already made that point
Maybe it's time indeed to say farewell to IE and use EDGE or another one.
What would you recommend me ?

But besides that: why not a problem in 1709 ??
