Post #19: "have dsktp icon dell supp assis, but it wont come up anyway"
--- That isn't an uncommon issue.

Try again and let us know if the Dell Support Assistant logo icon shows up
--- If the computer freezes and the Dell show the icon logo shows up but the Dell brand is missing let us know
--- What that means is does it look like this?
    Laptop Won't Function-dell-support-assistant-not-responding.jpg
--- Either way, "Dell engineering is aware of the issue and a solution will be included in an upcoming release."

The Dell Support Assistant logo icon looks like this

Refer to Dell SupportAssist does not respond following installation
Dell SupportAssist does not respond following installation | Dell US
--- If you are willing to try it, we can help you depending on your answers to the above comments.

On the refresh, depending on how long ago it was done, there might be a way to extract your data from a folder that contains your data but someone else would have to chime in on that; however, time is of the essence on when you did the reset. What day did you do the reset and what is the source of where you did the reset from?
--- I'm not sure but you might be able to revert back to a prior date of doing the reset.

    EDIT
I removed a recommendation to check the contents of the log file in the $SysReset folder. I just checked a computer I serviced a few weeks ago and looked up their $SysReset folder: it's a very lengthy report and I don't see the value of checking it out except for an experienced person.

Had to admit defeat. Cant evenget the cursor to stay in place, or it freezes, or it disappears when I try to place it somewhere to do something. Then if I can click on something, it justflashes for a moment and is gone or something else weird. So besides all this being to much for me to understand, if I did get what to do, the computer/cursor wont even let me try to click on something to try to do it. Cant try something if its frozen or flashing or jumping around preventing an attempt, catch-22.

So, thanks to all for trying to help, but it wont even let me, so Im toast.

Just ordered anew one, went for a cheapo, one I wanted with a lighted keyboard. Turns out to be another Dell.....not sure if thats agood or bad omen, but only $380, Im just basic user, dont need fancy. Now I dreadsetting up a new one when it comes, lost all my favorites, all that kind of stuff.

So thanks again, I'll be back after I start fooling with the new one.

Sorry to hear nothing is working.
The computer is brand new and I’d like to believe it’s recoverable.

While waiting for the new computer please try Dell’s pre-boot diagnostics to see what it reports.
--- In your case without needing the mouse but by using the TAB key.

Boot up the computer. At your log-in screen where it asks for your password
--- Use the TAB key on the keyboard to move from your account name to the Internet icon to the Ease of Access icon to the Power button icon.
--- Press ENTER, use the down arrow key on the keyboard to Restart, press Enter.
--- You will see a message: “If you restart now, you and any other people using this PC could lose unsaved work followed by a boxed in message Restart anyway”. Press Enter.

The computer will go into restarting. As soon as the screen goes black in order to restart, hold the f12 key in, do not let it go.
--- Pressing the f12 key as soon as possible is very important. The computer is most likely booting in FastBoot and catching the f12 in time is very easy to miss. If it doesn’t work for you the first time, repeat the process making sure that you are ready to instantly press the f12 key within a split second of when the screen goes black and will be restarting.

Following that you will have a choice for selecting a boot device
--- Use the down arrow key to Diagnostics. Press Enter.

The Diagnostics will begin. Record any issues that are reported.
I just ran that process on my Dell Inspiron 580 and it took a total of 1 hour 10 minutes.
--- In your case, it’s possible it will take longer but be ready to stay with the computer in case you will need to allow a step to continue.

An excellent suggestion for @ImLost to try. I have a Dell and have run its built in diagnostics in just the way you describe.

Yes. You could always add an external usb dvd drive if you need one.

You can copy all the files/folders from the CD to a usb stick (on a friend's PC if yours is unusable). Use that to set up the printer on the new PC. If you can't do that, the setup software can in most cases be downloaded from the manufacturer's site.

If your printer needs a driver, then check its manufacturer's site to see if one is available for download.

I just ran into the same thing on a Dell Venue Pro 11 on which I just clean-installed 1803 Windows 10. The fix? After I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version (A24 in my case), Support Assist starting working again. If your BIOS isn't up-to-date (which you can check through System Information, aka msinfo32.exe) updating it might help you, too.

All this stuff jusy way over my head.

MEANDMYCOMPUTER - now it goes right to desktop, dont have password required. Cursor jumps/flashes, and click lower left to get that power button, it only flahes for an instant........what if I can move cursor to "restart" quick enough to get it to restart.....can I try that, then hit the f12 soon as it goes black?
