Thanks. I tried the "shutdown /r /fw" (using Admin command prompt) and it replied:

"The system could not find the environment option that was entered. (203). Oh, and this computer just loves to give you a hard time. "
    Check your environment variables:

Yes, that (203) error indicates something may be amiss with your environment variables.

Thanks. Yeah, that sounds like the way to go. And I'll do that if I can get over the nervousness about going into the recovery options and clicking on stuff. Especially if I don't really need to get into the BIOS in the first place.

I use Shift + Restart to get the recovery screen then select Boot to UEFI Options under Advanced options.

Are you booting as legacy bios or UEFI?

Sometime, the only way to get to the bios is to remove the CMOS battery for say 30 mins, so pc forgets bios set date/time. Then on restart pc jumps to bios for you to input date/time.

Some bioses have a jumper you can change to reset bios which has a similar effect.

BOOTing to BIOS has absolutely nothing to do with OS, nothing. That can be done even without any drives, let alone OS. To reset CMOS/BIOS there's a two pin connector in the middle of MB, called JBAT1, need to connect them for few seconds while computer is off and power to it shut down. That will bring BIOS to factory defaults and next time you start computer it will default to opening BIOS POST screen.
    From manual:
    Entering BIOS Setup
Please refer the following methods to enter BIOS setup.
y Press Delete key, when the Press DEL key to enter Setup Menu, F11 to enter Boot
Menu message appears on the screen during the boot process.
y Use MSI FAST BOOT application. Click on GO2BIOS button and choose OK. The
system will reboot and enter BIOS setup directly.
