Any idea what these Japanese-looking registry entries are?

    Hello,

Whilst trying to sort out something on a friend's computer, I noticed some odd-looking registry entries...

These may be perfectly innocent, but then again, she is English, with Hebrew installed on her machine, so no oriental language packs at all, so I would be surprised to see such registry entries.

We ran CCCleaner on her machine, and it didn't flag these up. Don't know if that's any proof of anything!

We exported them, here are the contents of the exported .reg files...

Any way of finding out where they came from, and if they should be there?
    Thanks

They're actually Chinese characters, others have seen them too. See this thread...
...it seems that this garbled characters are related to Avast Browser Cleanup that I'd uninstalled recently.

Sorry for my mistake, I don't know the difference between Chinese and Japanese.

As it happens, I think she mentioned having Avast, which would explain it. I assume that as she still has it, we should leave these reg keys alone?

    Thanks for the reply.

Neither did I when I first saw them - did a Google Image search to find out what they said. Turns out they are a random collection of characters, just binary data being displayed in an inappropriate format.

It should do no harm leaving them there. You could always export them first if you want to see what happens if you delete them.
