Oh please help - Windows 10 is killing this computer

I'm sorry but I am so so so angry. Microsnot updates this computer and DAMN BAMN.

Now after a update no matter that ALL settings for sleep and the Sceen is set to NEVER EVER. ALL settings every single setting for sleep and stopping the screen is setup to not put it to sleep. But if I stop texting for 5 minutes it it goes bye bye.

    So
    1. With ALL Screen and Sleep Settings set to NEVER EVER how do I stop it from killing it at one minute? Yeah 5 ****ing minutes.
    2. I now want to NEVER ever allow any other update. How do I stop it.

Win10 is not totally to blame, just have to keep in mind that Microsoft's updates are in truth Version Upgrades such as from 1703 to 1709 to 1803 to whatever and that the Builds are updates to the Version which are similar to the older Service Packs. What is messing up peoples' customizations is the rewriting of the Registry as needed for those Upgrades and updates, will always happen.

In the grand scheme of things Win10 is probably the last numbered version, have seen the terms of WaaS/Windows as a Service and SaaS/Software as a Service used. Office 365 Subscription is an SaaS. Other software producers are starting to do the same, subscription-based.

Interesting observation: Windows 10 came about and Apple's Mac OS X became macOS. Roman numeral X is 10.

Gotcha - sigh. And oh you'd never ever suspect the problems I have on my work laptop - also Windows 10 that I just got a week ago. I had Windows 7 before and although it had some problems. Most were fixable and I was able to get around them. Now for work I've spent a whole week trying to get Windows 10 to behave and allow me to do the work I do. Sigh. A whole week.

    Anyway thanks

I would suggest you check your hardware drivers. Windows 10 updates tend to replace the proprietary drivers with windows Native which cause all kinds of issues for our notebooks. Yours especially seeing as it was originally Windows 7.

I would check with the manufacturer support website and download and install the latest BIOS, Chipset, wi-Fi bluetooth, Audio trackpad any special keyboard software, and all other drivers that are supplied for Windows 10,
You may find that your notebook does not support Windows 10, but will support Windows 8.1, in that case, you probably should roll back to 7 and just upgrade to 8.1 or just finish off the life of this notebook on Windows 7.

Hey, I had this issue as well on my laptop and it had me swearing and cursing at Microsoft for not getting the basics to work properly on this WIP POS OS. I can understand your frustration. Here's how I fixed it (follow the sequence)

    1. If you have set a screensaver, you need to disable it. It seems that Win 10 does not play well with the Screensaver. Open the Screensaver settings and set it to display after 60 min or greater and click Apply. After you've done that, select None from the screensaver list and click Apply and then click OK. This will turn off screensavers on the system while setting activation time to a large enough value.

    2. If you have turned on Hibernation on your system, turn it off. Execute the command "powercfg -h /off" (without the quotes, of course) in an elevated command prompt window. You can turn it back on later.

    3. Open the Settings app and choose the 'Power & sleep' settings. Click the 'Additional power settings' link under Related Settings. For the current plan, click the 'Change plan settings' link. Click the 'Restore default settings for this plan' link. The system will restore default values for the plan.

    4. Enable 'System unattended sleep timeout' in Advanced Power Options and change its value to something greater than 2 minutes. To do this, you'll first need to edit the registry (backup registry before editing if you're unsure). The below screenshot indicates the change you need to make

Next, in Advanced Power Options settings, set the 'System unattended sleep timeout' value to a longer duration as indicated in the screenshot below

While here, make any other changes (brightness, turn off display after, sleep after, Wireless Adapter power saving, Lid close action, etc.) as required and click the 'Save changes' button.

    5. Restart the computer.

    6. Turn hibernation back on if you use it.

The problem should be fixed now. It did for me. Good luck!
