Can you name some other 3rd party solutions because I can't seem to find any that actually hides the fonts from appearing in applications like Microsoft Word. It's so annoying to have this huge long list.

I've tried NexusFont as it's one of the more popular programs and it does not hide the fonts that I do not want in Microsoft Word. It's still there. Nexus font simply categorizes all the fonts that you have. It's a little annoying because if you want to use it, Nexus Font takes a while to load.

There are third party solutions to control the Fonts "situation" on Windows - It appears that every single application loads some form of font collection from a few to a lot. One application I've been using for a long time Is the Totally Free Nexus Font from Xiles

When you add a font or collection it is copied into the fonts folder so become available to applications, if you then remove a font or collection the fonts are not available

What you need to do with nexus font or any of the other options is you have to uninstall the font rather than hide them, MS have a history of not following their own "rules" so hiding may not work for Word

Fonts are uninstalled when they are removed from the fonts folder.

To do this safely you should first make a copy of the full fonts folder so that you have a way back if you ever change your mind. (Nexus font displays a view of this folder but has a method to uninstall the font but leave its file in the fonts folder, by directly accessing the registry information

When you choose uninstall in Nexus Font it will prompt you to move the font to a set location leave it where it is or back it up

I would suggest that you create a fonts folder tree somewhere away from the system so that you can find fonts in future and move files to somewhere in this tree when not in use, the way the tree is organised is your choice I use font families and font sources - MS Adobe Etc, but some pros will create folders of all the fonts they use for a specific Client, Job, or both.

There are other alternatives to Nexus Font, one was included with CorelDraw!, and some Pro options still remain but these are likely to cost hundreds of dollars or be part of suites that cost thousands

With all that I have stated here we are dealing with Microsoft here and it may be that you will do all this get everything as you like it and on the next Office or even Windows update/release Microsoft will check fonts and replace all those that have "disappeared"

    Berton,

Tried that and hiding the fonts do nothing. Never did anything. Someone mentioned that it only hides the fonts in NotePad and some other low level programs.

    Really useful, right?

    Maybe something here:

Or use fonts from folders at DuckDuckGo.

    I guess I'll do that.

But, why doesn't hiding work? Isn't that the entire purpose of the "hide" function on the font page?

Why is the Windows OS so buggy?
LOL I came to this thread looking for what you were looking for -- on Win 7 I was able to tick/untick hide/reveal fonts so my wordpad list wasn't BLOATED with ugly useless fonts.

I don't imagine I'll ever understand why Microsoft's programmers take something they've already created and then throw it in the bin and say 'our users don't deserve this' -- side taskbars, hidden fonts, remembered window size and position, the most basic elements of a tolerable O/S for me LOL
