Windows 10 Index broken please help

So my basic issue is that using Index Options I get the app saying "Waiting to receive indexing status ..." . I hit the advanced button nothing happens. All locked up. So hunted as one does and tried in order :
    1. The Search Index Trouble shooter - no problems
    2. check disk - no problem
    3. sfc /scannow
    4. dsim restorehealth
    5. c:\users\me\appdata microsoft search - deleted the contents
    6. Registry HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Search\SetupCompletedSuccessfully = 0
    7. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:e:\Sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess using a new download image

Fed up now and completely flummoxed.

Cn someone please help I do not want to to do a full install

Hi, with respect to 'Advanced' not working, you might check the details here:
Enable or Disable Advanced Indexing Options in Windows | Windows 10 Tutorials

Have you tried to reset and rebuild the index?

Can't modify indexing options - Windows 7 Help Forums

Does the Modify button work normally?

There are other possibilities before doing a clean install, including
    - System restore point - probably only relevant if you know this problem arose recently
    - an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps programs, data and most settings

I obviously have not communicated fully. All the settings are good. Whilst the "Waiting for indexing status..." is showing the Advanced button is available to click. I click it nothing happens and then the window is locked and has to be killed via task manager. I can NEVER get to advanced options. Its not disabled - see pic

Try the option 3 from this tutorial mentioned above Rebuild Search Index in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

It will delete the index object (Windows.edb) and then try to recreate it and also reset HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search, SetupCompletedSuccessfully which can get corrupted according to here

If you read thru the tutorials you will find different things you can try toggling.

What is the state of the Windows search service?

You can try Tweaking.com's free cautious repair tool. Observe the cautious stages. Select only repairs related to services.

What happens if you create a new user for test purposes? Does indexing work in that user's account, or do you see the same problem?

Try the Trouble shooter. It's there to be used, built into Windows. If that does not fix the issue, then Plan B, or C, or D. At least try the simple approach first.
