Windows 10 Shutdowns Before Reaching its Maximum Temperature

    Hi,

I've an eight years old Thinkpad T410 which is totally healthy and runs well and handles my jobs. But it has a serious problem. Its maximum tolerable temp is 105. But it force shutdowns 4 or 5 degree before reaching its maximum. It runs well under windows 7 but just cannot handle the situation in the case of windows 10. Normally, I set its performance on 99% which disables Turbo Boost, but I want to find a way to unleash its maximum power.

    Any idea?

    Thanks

Clean it completely free of dust and probably re-paste the CPU? The BIOS is probably sensing it's getting close to its maximum temps and shutting itself off to prevent damaging the CPU and other components.

Hi, you'd need to provide some more info: e.g.
    When your laptop is overheating
    - please provide a screenshot of the task manager showing any relevant activity.

When your laptop is nominally idle and has been so for some time for the temperature to stabilise, again
    - please provide a screenshot of the task manager showing any relevant activity.

Does it overheat in Safe Mode?

    Thanks.

Note, as a matter of simple engineering, unless the manufacturer has confirmed compatibility with Win 10, there's no basis for assuming it will necessarily be fully compatible.

Near as I can tell that is an 8yr old laptop, therefore needs to be pulled apart and cleaned by a pro. Blowing air into the exhaust will not work at this point in time imo. Air dusters are for maintenance, not repairs.

    True.

I recently improved temperature on my 5 year old Toshiba by removing the back and carefully cleaning the fan and vents.

Is there any difference running battery vs ac adapter ?

If the battery is failing, it may not power the computer up enough and it will shut down. If you remove the battery and the laptop runs with the power adapter attached and does not shut down, then the battery needs to be replaced.

@zbook the OP is talking about a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 laptop, as listed in the OP, not a desktop.

    @spunk,

The updating specs post allows OP to enter the latest information on their hardware (parts replaced over time that may not be the original parts). The updating specs is generic to include desktops and notebooks and has PSU and docking station so that it is all inclusive.
