HP laptop won't boot up after restart

You can access system restore by booting from a Win 10 install bootable medium via 'Repair your computer', or from the power button on the Lock screen, SHIFT + left click Restart, or via the Troubleshoot, Advanced start options which I think is what you may have done.

I don't know what your shortcut is or does... but system restore is well known here (many comments) for being unreliable and failing when you need to use a restore point.

This is why we so often urge people to use disk imaging routinely to give themselves a relatively easy path back to a working system- often without technical help - by restoring a previously created disk or Windows image. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free).

If SR doesn't work, an outside chance might be to restore your registry backup (which is done offline - Windows not running).

Ah, sounds like it. Hope you have disk images, so you can easily restore them to a new disk..

There are drive monitoring programs like Crystal Diskinfo, Hard Disk Sentinel, which you can have running to warn you about disk degradation.

Otherwise, if you don't have backups, you may need to try to extract what you can from your disk.

You can of course try other disk tests to confirm.

Personally I'd use Kyhi's boot disk (available from the top of the Software and Apps section here). Win 10 based, with a lot of utilities. Download the iso, create a bootable flash drive e.g....

You may know Win 10 iso's are freely downloadable and no licensing issue to clean install on a new disk.
However, if your current build is 1709, then you would normally get 1803 now, problematic for some.

As written below, no. Note that the drive is cleaned and formatted.
Personally I'd prefer to wait and not take any risk. Certainly not with data I'd not backed up in any case.

To create a bootable disk you can use e.g. Rufus (free) or follow the instructions below.

Whether you can do that and retain an existing partition on a disk I'll leave to you.

To reliably make a bootable USB flash drive from an ISO file, do this:

Plug the drive into a USB port of a functioning Windows PC.

Open a command prompt.
Run diskpart.

Once diskpart is running, enter the following commands in sequence:

list disk
select disk #
- replace # with the actual disk number of the USB flash drive
clean
- this will erase the selected drive, make sure it is the USB flash drive!
create part pri
format fs=fat32 quick
active
exit
exit

Then mount your ISO file.
(By default you can simply right click the iso file, and click Mount. However, Mount will not be available if iso files have been associated with a different program).

Copy all the files and folders from the mounted ISO file to the USB flash drive.

(If stuck you can open the iso with 7-zip, a free program).
