    There is no convenient means of adding icons to the System tray. There are third-party utilities to do this. One such is Trayconizer, about which there is a brief TenForums discussion [there might be other discussions].

    I do not know what you mean by "navigation area".

    Notification Area on the Taskbar is the new term for the System Tray, changed a couple of versions earlier.

    Programs can put an icon in the Notification Area but right-click the Taskbar and go to Taskbar settings and the Notification area section, see if the choice you want shows in one of the settings.

    If you like, it would be easier to "Pin to taskbar" the app.

    Some 3rd party utilities add or have features like 'Minimise to tray' or 'Send to tray' (typically using the older terminology).

    I have one that adds that as one of many options on rt clicking the title bar:
