How to Disable auto Shortcut Creation

Windows is creating shortcuts on my desktop to removable drives. I deleted them several times but it keeps recreating this shortcuts. I looked a bit on google and have seen that some programs are able to create shortcuts to removable drives on your deskop automatically but I never downloaded or installed such programs.

You have "Hide Protected System Files" unchecked. I see the desktop, ini on your desktop. Go into folder view and check it to hide them.

When I log out and back the shortcuts are not there but they quickly appear after a couple of seconds.

Don`t know if this has something to do with it but they reappear shortly after I get this message:

You have Desktop Folder in your OneDrive? Check there to see if those links are there. If so, delete them. They may be coming back from the "Cloud".

I think I figured it out now.

I right clicked on one of the shortcuts, Proprieties, Shortcut and the "Comment" part there was something interesting:

    "Created by Virtual CD 10"

So I went to the Virtual CD settings, "Display of Drives" and unchecked the "Removable media (such as USB flash drives)" option. It looks like the shortcuts are gone for good now.

    Thanks for the help @f14tomcat

Edge shortcut keeps reappearing on my desktop after removal.

I have a similar problem, and this is the closest existing thread I could find.

Microsoft edge keeps putting a shortcut on my desktop. I keep removing it, and it just keeps coming back. No reboot or major update happens, It just re-appears. One of the reasons I don't use Edge (actually THE single major reason), is that I feel Microsoft is trying to shove it down my throat, and this is a huge example of that.

I have taken the drastic step of disabling Microsoft Edge Update and elevation in services, and eliminating Edge update from the start menu. While it is still to early to tell if this took care of the unwanted Edge shortcut re-appearing on my desktop; I was wondering if I can expect any adverse issues to crop up because of this?

Until now, I have been perfectly content with moving the shortcut off of my desktop and ignoring the space and resource eating monster that Microsoft prevents us from completely un-installing. I feel that if the Internet browser is tied THAT closely into the OS and UI, that cannot be uninstalled, it was done deliberately to shove edge into the faces of those who would prefer not to use it. Yeah.... I'll admit that Microsoft has taken care of most of the issues I had when Edge first appeared; but this harassment has my back up, and the more they push, the more recalcitrant I am to use it.

If I have done something that is going to haunt me later, I would prefer a heads up. I probably should have asked first before making these changes, but flinging unwanted, unasked for shortcuts onto my desktop made me more than a little angry. (and from comments around the "Web" I'm not the only one.) Any input is appreciated, including verification if there will be no adverse affects from my (admittedly hasty) actions. - Thanks

Edit: I also deleted the Microsoft Edge Update Task(s) in the scheduler.
