    Unresponsive toolbar folder buttons

    Win 10 Pro 15063.1155 (1703/RS2)

Lately, when I open file explorer folders, some randomly become non-responsive from the desktop toolbar. Left Click on the toolbar button and nothing happens. I must right click them and choose "close window". I can reopen them from a shortcut or the file explorer before I close them.

Hi, I'm wondering why you are still on build 1703. Is that a deliberate choice- have you disabled Windows update- or is something fundamentally broken, and so you are not receiving updates?
Please post a screenshot of your Update History.

If the latter, there may be bigger problems than what you describe.

Not knowing the history of your system:
    a. Please check your disk (Download and run e.g. HD Tune and check the smart parameters are ok.
    b. If ok, please run
    chkdsk c: /scan
    from an admin command prompt.

    If that fails, please run
    chkdsk c: /F
    - your PC will need to reboot.

    Then run
    SFC /SCANNOW
    from an admin command prompt

    and report results.

Do you have System Restore points available? (Have you ever turned system restore on?)
Do you use disk imaging as we continually urge users to do (e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + external storage)?

    Hi dalchina,

I'm on a 365 day feature deferral. I've had such a terrible experience with these feature updates in the past, including 1709, that I wanted to give it plenty of time to work things out. I will be updating soon tho, since time is running out for 1703

Just what I reported. I still receive all current security updates

All of that is in order. If I can't get an answer I'll just roll back to a Macrium image from several month ago.

I was just hoping that somebody else was familiar with the symptoms.

Thanks. I doubt that toolbar buttons being randomly unresponsive is very familiar, unfortunately. Feel free to search the forum.

Please create a new user for test purposes and compare performance.

This helps to distinguish between Windows corruption and effects from installed programs or user profile related problems.

Please confirm that you have tried using a restore point and this has not helped.
