Why does UAC kick in when opening some Desktop Shortcuts?

    Hi all -

I'm running W10 Pro, build 1803 and having some odd issues with Desktop (URL) Shortcuts.
When I open many, but not all of them I see this:

Size:	15.0 KB

    Why?

Here is how the UAC is set:

Funny thing is that I also have a Lenovo running W10 Pro and do not have these issues, so it must be something that is set specific to this system in question.

    Looking forward to your assistance!

    Thanks! :)

Don't think that's UAC. This may help:

    Hi dalchina -

Thanks for your response. The first 3 options do not apply to my problem and I don't want to persue the rest just yet. I'm creating these URL Shortcuts in Firefox 61 using the standard dragging method and also the QuickCut add-on.

Some of these URL Shortcuts were created under Windows XP Pro and others in Win 10 Pro.
Not all require "permission" and that's what is making me totally confused.

The dialog you posted shows that these are not *.url files but *_url* files i.e. files with names but no file extension.

As @dalchina mentioned the dialog is that shown for 'blocked' files and nothing to do with UAC. The next time you get that dialog, just bail out then right-click on the file, select Properties and you should see the blocked file entry.

Found the issue by comparing two Internet Shortcuts. One created from dragging with FF and the other created by QuickCut. There is an issue with the Shortcut created by QuickCut and I sent an email to the author about this.

Only workaround is to unblock each shortcut created by that QuickCut add-on.

    Thanks for the assistance!

    Glad it wasn't more fundamental.

One created from dragging with FF
Out of interest, does that mean you can drag from FF to create .url files? [dragging an icon in its address bar or similar?]

If so, I will start looking into FF when even more websites drop support for IE. Unlike Edge, I can easily save files as independent .url files that I can move around as I wish [so I can file away .url files in the same subject matter folder as docs on the same subject].
