Hp laptop screen won’t display except occasionally

The Original symptoms sound very similar to a Gateway NV53 I have recently fixed for a Friend ....sort of..... , my friend had given up on it and brought a new one....but it was actually a Bad motherboard (solder I beleive) and if you let the computer Sleep or turn it off and let it cool down , it was very difficult to get re-started and you'd just see the black screen you mentioned. Wouldn't surprise me if yours is similar being a refurb.

It initial "fix" was to wrap it in a Bath towel once at the black screen and leave it for 30-45mins till it got extra hot and then restart it and it would boot every time , now it is setup to never sleep ( just screen off ) or hibernate and must be always left plugged in, so the MB stays warm , just this week it upgraded to 1803 without issues too.

If there were no typos or errors there are additional steps that will need flash drives that you can format.

I did everything again and got the same responses. However, I found a video that said the newest version of windows often causes the "wouldbootrec /fixboot" segment to result in an "access denied" response. I tried an earlier ISO and the access denied response no longer appears; howerver, everything else is still the same. My laptop isn't turning on right now- been trying for almost an hour, but once I can get it to start, I'll try some more commands.

I'm definitely going to give this a try. I'll let you know what happens

1) diskpart
2) list disk
3) list volume
4) select disk 0
5) list partition
6) select volume 2
7) assign letter=Q:
8) exit
9) cd /c:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot
10) bootrec /fixboot
11) ren BCD BCD.vold
12) bcdboot c:\windows /L en-us /s Q: All
reboot

Just tried it. When I listed the disks, it said "disk 0" had 0 B free out of 465 GB which idk if that's relevant or not. The rest of it is good until step 9. Says "The system cannot find the path specified." Also I noticed that during another set of commands, regarding copying "regback", it said that regback has 0 files in it. Could that be an issue as well? I tried to look it up online, but there aren't really any clear answers.

Just tried it, but I didn't notice anything different-although it wasn't that warm. Might try to do it longer later tonight. At this point, I'm honestly willing to try anything

There was a typo that was fixed.
Were you able to see the results?
If it accepted the commands that should have built a new EFI partition boot sector.

Maybe I need to select another volume? I could be completely off. I'm not the most computer-literate.

There are approximately 4 options:
1) Kyhi Boot rescue
2) Macrium boot repair
3) Clean install
4) Ubuntu/Linux

All of the above would need flash drives that you can format.

All of the options end up freezing once I enter them with the exception of the windows-which froze later. I might try a couple more times, but I don't think there's much hope for my device. I really appreciate the help. There's not many people online that are actually willing to look into whats wrong.
