    When you drop to the command line, are you actually in DOS? The commands sure look familiar from the 80's.

    No. Its development has continued from that stage but it is no longer an OS, merely a set of commands. There is no particular collective name for them so you'll see awkward or non-descript terms such as
    - Command prompt commands
    - Windows commands

    Like Dick ( @f14tomcat) I tend to jump into cmd from an administrative PowerShell session these days. One exit goes back into PS, one more to get out completely. Easy access to the best of both worlds.

    Ed, my thanks as well. I've added this to my SysTools toolbar where it's easy to get to when needed. Easy to get to for me.
