Can't edit mp3 tags from explorer

I'm having a trouble while I try to edit mp3 tags from windows explorer... I don't know why I can't now, I reinstalled windows but I've always was able to edit things such as album or even give the song 5 stars.

That's how how it should be seen, but it doesn't let me edit the tag :/ no matter what. I cannot type in it.
The mp3 files are not read only, I have full rights of them and the folder.

I don't know why is this happening ....

Tried with MP3Tag and Kid3 tag editor, but I don't like them, also messes my language when I import the songs to my iphone.

Any help to get it working again in the windows explorer?

    Thanks!

I have the same issue with some .mp3 files and think it may be the problem is with the source of the files, my downloads from other sites such as YouTube. My ripped music from CD doesn't have the issue.

I have the issue with every .mp3 funny because if I copy the files to another machine running the same windows 10, it allows me to edit them.

Hi, can't say why it won't work given you've reinstalled (which build?) so I'll give you an indirect answer.

Try (free) File MetaData - it's a very interesting extension- for much more than just mp3's. The discussion on their original web page was interesting, but they had to relocate the project, and the documentation is there now.

I'm looking for a fix on the windows explorer.

It's like its blocked or something because when I run the Kid3 Tag editor it let me edit them (not save tho, because kid3 has it open) backs to normal when I close kid3

I remember when using windows 7 installing AudioShell then rebooting then uninstalling AudioShell and rebooting fixed that problem.

ID3 tag editor - AudioShell freeware music files tag editor - direct tag editing from Windows Vista/7/8 Explorer

Cannot view nor edit mp3 files in explorer. Solved - Page 4 - Windows 7 Help Forums

EDIT: Was a program named Icaros which was blocking the tags

    Thanks everyone for help!

I had a hard time a few weeks ago compiling MP3 files to play on MZD Connect on my Mazda. There were various tagging and data integrity issues which I fixed as below. My approach may be overkill for your needs!

    MP3 File Analysis

    1. MP3 files store music metadata (ID3 Tags) which can be in several formats. ID3 Tag v2.3 has proven to work with MZD Connect. The ID3 Tags can be converted in iTunes by viewing the tracks in Library / Songs view then selecting File / Convert / Convert ID3 Tags, then select v2.3. An alternative method is listed in step 3 below.
    2. Use the free program Tagscanner https://www.xdlab.ru/en/ to check and edit the MP3 file metadata for artist, album art etc. The same editing can be done in iTunes but Tagscanner is much easier and faster. Check both the artist and album artist fields are completed, the song name & album name are correct, track number & disc number are set and that embedded album art is present for every track. Note multiple tracks can be selected and edited simultaneously.
    3. Check the tags for each music file are correctly set to v2.3 in Tagscanner. Cut the tag then paste it back in the same place to set v2.3 if the incorrect version is set.
    4. Perform a Google image search for the artist and album name to find a JPG file for missing album covers. Save a suitable artwork file size c. 300x300 pixels then add the album art for each track in Tagscanner.
    5. Use free program MP3Test http://www.shivi.de/MP3Test-EN.html to quickly check and test for MP3 file errors. Correct any simple errors using Tagscanner.
    6. Use the free program MP3Diags http://mp3diags.sourceforge.net/ to perform a detailed check of MP3 files and correct errors. This program has a learning curve and some experience to use. Inexperienced computer users may prefer to skip this step and just rely on step 5 above.

Thank you! I've been having issues with not being able to edit metadata on a good number of my files for the longest time. Uninstalled Icaros and it worked perfectly after that!

I know this is an old thread, but I recently also had this issue. What the issue was for me was that I had added the folder containing the MP3 files as a "library location" in Windows Media Player. I solved the issue by opening Windows Media Player and going to Organize > Manage Libraries > Music and removing this folder from the list of Library Locations. After doing that I could right-click on the file in Windows Explorer, open Properties and it then let me edit the MP3 tags. Windows Media Player must have been locking the properties of the MP3 files so that it could manage the MP3 tags/metadata itself.
