Windows 10: when window is in maximize state, drag the window down problem

when window is in maximize state, drag the window down problem

Not sure what is going on
but when a window of an app is in a maximize state e.g.excel
I then click on the window and drag it down so it goes out of the maximized state

Instead of showing me a smaller window of the app when it is not maximized
so that I can still view the contents of the excel..

    This occurs..

Basically it is as if someone resized the window to be the smallest size possible.

    This is really annoying.

Seems to occur for few apps.

How can I fix this problem?

Switching from maximized to windowed should return to the last window size used by that particular app. It appears that for some of your apps an invalid size has been recorded.

To resize one of these 'minimalist' windows when it appears, right-click on the taskbar and select 'Cascade windows'. This should give you a useable window that you can then resize to your preferred size. Close the app and this new size should be remembered for use next time. Do this for each of the apps affected in this way.

Yes, I did resize to a smaller state for some of the apps when I noticed the problem

but I noticed the next time I boot into Windows
    the same problem occurs again.

I will try to resize and see it occurs again.....and report back
