Yeah, its weird because I have shortcuts for PC Shutdown and to switch from Extend to PC Screen Only etc on my Desktop. I can Pin those to my Start Menu and Taskbar. However, If I create a shortcut to say a text document and put that on my Desktop, no right click Pin option?
Even weirder, I opened File Explorer, chose a simple text/.txt file, right-clicked and chose Send To, Desktop (create shortcut). That worked and I could open the file [Notepad] and read it. If I then dragged that shortcut to the Taskbar then opened it from there Notepad opened to a blank document ready for typing. The shortcut on the Desktop didn't change.

It's not consistent from app to app, program to program either. If I create a shortcut to the Environment Canada Website from IE, and pin that to my taskbar. It opens in its own window in IE. If I launch IE after that it opens in a separate window. Both on separate monitors if I want. And I do want it that way.
If I do the pin from Edge everything opens in that one Window / instance. New tabs are created in the one Window instead of a new Instance. Not what I personally want. Luckily the shortcut launches from IE even when Edge is the default.

I don't "pin" anything. I make a new taskbar, and then you can drag anything to it the old fashioned way.

What's on my Windows taskbar is only what I use every day, that's it. Outlook, Edge, File Explorer, etc. Frequently used stuff I pin to my start screen, that's about 20 tiles or so. What is on my taskbar is repeated there. Everything else I just search for of go to all apps. Icons are hidden on my desktop. The only time I see my desktop is after logging in. A few mouse clicks latter and all 3 of my monitors are full and in use. I have simple needs though. I'm retired.

If you want to pin a certain document to the Taskbar, change the extension to .exe, drag it to the Taskbar, change it back to previous extension, also on the Taskbar, restart Explorer...

    Hello all -

Still attempting to attach Desktop Internet Shortcuts to the Taskbar with no luck.
I would rather not create a second custom Taskbar to do it.

    Any new ideas?

    TIA :)

You can try using the Quick Launch Toolbar. I have used it since (I think) Vista, and can put any shortcut I want on it. Works every time.
