Files not showing in Quick Access

Why are ordinary doc and xls files which I open, update and save not showing in my list of Recent Files in Quick Access? The File Explorer is set to Quick Access. Thanks in advance.

I just tested that. Any "new" docs are displayed in QA, but updated ones are not. I made a new doc, saved it, and it was in QA. In QA, I right-clicked "Remove from QA". Went back to Word and modified it, and saved. It did NOT show in QA. So....appears only new docs, etc., least from Office Apps, show up. Reason? Really no idea, just verifying you are correct. I modified an existing text document in my user files with Notepad, and it showed up. Must be something quirky with Office and Explorer.

A problem can exist when the Documents and others under Users are moved to a different Partition or Drive, most likely will occur with small drives, such as 32GB, on Tablets with added MicroSDHC cards or maybe with HDDs with a small C: drive and larger D: drive. QA and Libraries are more or less shortcuts to the actual files.

Thanks Berton. Let me assure you that none of the above has taken place. It is a new laptop with a flash drive (always plugged in) as an echo Synctoy backup. As f14tomcat confirmed, any "new" file is immediately listed in recent files, but any file that already exists, is updated and saved WILL NOT list. I have no problem managing my filing and backup systems; it's simply that things I do not understand drive me nuts. So I keep on asking: why? why? why?
