Edit a Desktop Icon Text, a better approach needed

I need to edit the words at the bottom of a desktop icon. There are many links telling how to change the size, but that is not my need. The following works, but it often takes many attempts.

Left click the icon. The area around it changes to light blue, indicating that it has been selected.

Click in the wording region, and immediately move the cursor towards the center of the icon. (Click, not click and hold). If successful, the text will be white, surrounded by a blue area. It is similar to what is seen when changing a document title. Otherwise, try and try again.

Click in the blue region and make the change - again like changing a document title. Click somewhere else on the
desktop, and the change is made.

I would include some images, but don't know how to do so.

    Hey Jim8080,
Right click on desktop icon > rename > change text > hit enter

You're over-complicating this. An icon on the desktop is just a file with a filename. It's as easy to rename a desktop icon as any other file would be in File Explorer.

The first left-click selects the icon. A second click on the title text selects it for editing. Type what you want and click elsewhere on the desktop to set this as the new title.

That's it, no cryptic 'click and move' gestures required. Just make sure you don't click too soon after the first click else it may be seen as a double-click.

Or ... select the shortcut and press the F2 key. The overtype the existing name with a new name.
