Very strange shutdown problem in Windows 10 64bit build 1803

Three or four days ago when I clicked shutdown, after 30 seconds the monitor went dark but the PC was still running, I tried it in Safe Mode, Clean Boot and restored an image from 14 days ago all with the same result. I thought before I inflicted on myself two weeks of teeth gnashing and swearing by reloading everything I would ask some clever person here who might have a solution.

    Thank you

    Hi Peter, welcome to TenForums.

I have two Intel based laptops, an Asus and an HP. The Asus one had similar issue, shutting down left laptop partially on, fans were still on as was the power light. To boot again, I had to do a hard reset keeping power button pressed until power light went off indicating laptop was now fully turned off, then press the power button again to start it.

I accidentally found the culprit. In my case, it was Intel Management Engine Interface power saving being turned on.

Not sure if your issue is caused by the same option in device settings, but at least it is worth to try. Open Device Manager, right click System devices > Intel Management Engine Interface and select Properties. Disable power saving:

Restart, then try to shut down to see if it works.

Each upgrade / clean install enables the power saving, so I have to disable it manually every time I have upgraded Windows.

I'm afraid I have no idea how to create a BETA log collector. A further development is that I did a RESET of my PC which meant the only software on my PC was Windows and it still refused to shut down. Maybe something in the BIOS?

    1) Run the DM log collector and post a zip into this thread:
BSOD - Posting Instructions - Windows 10 Forums

    2) The BETA log collector at some time will replace the DM log collector. It collects more useful information.
See if you can give it another try and use the images in this thread (extract > open): (post #5)

    3) Update the specs in the "My Computer section:
System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums:

In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.

My techie solved it, my Logitech speakers packed up about the same time I had the shut down problem, he told me to unplug and change the speakers and all will be well. New speakers and all is well. Thank you all.

I am having this issue with my AMD system. This ONLY started one week after the 1803 update. The PSU is 6 months old, a 750W Corsair unit.
Some days it will shut down and then it will not, I have to hold the power button to shut it off. Anyone have any ideas?
