    Missing Start Menu icons.

A lot of my Start Menu icons have recently disappeared. Both tiles and "All Apps" entries. The missing items range from games to Windows features. For example "Windows Accessories" only has three items listed and "Windows Administrative Tools" is missing altogether.

The only thing I've done recently, which might have caused this is running CCleaner.

    I tried "chkdsk c: /f /r", "SFC /ScanNow", "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup", and "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth", and "Get-appxpackage -all *shellexperience* -packagetype bundle |% {add-appxpackage -register -disabledevelopmentmode ($_.installlocation + “\appxmetadata\appxbundlemanifest.xml”)}", but none of that worked. Is there something else I can try?

(I suspect that I might be misusing the term "icon," because the alternate method at the site where I found that PowerShell command starts, "1. Hold-and-press or right click the missing icon....")

Altogether missing I don't know about. But after a major update some of mine go blank. I've found right click where I know it's supposed to be and it will popup the menu with "Resize" and pick a different size. It will repopulate only with a different size. Resize it again and it's alright until maybe the next update. Doesn't happen to all of them, or any particular one(s) repeatedly. But it's a workaround for me.

Right-clicking the empty spot has no effect.

I really didn't think it would be so simple, but thought just maybe? Sorry it didn't work and that I don't have anything else to offer. Someone will chime in soon enough with a solution. don't give up on these people. they represent a wealth of knowledge and are more than willing to share it.

In-place repair? Let it try to put it all back together? You won't lose any data or progs. Takes 30 minutes or so.

    2 suggestions. No guarantees.

    1. Run Start Menu Troubleshooting.
Here's a direct download link - StartMenu troubleshooter.

    2. Do a Repair Install.

Your User Profile may have gotten corrupted and Windows loaded a Default User Profile.
In File Explorer, go to the View tab and put a check in box for Hidden Files to view them.
Browse to C:\Users[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. This should be all of your start menu programs. You can drag any shortcuts to programs in here that you are missing.
If all of your Shortcuts (Icons) are here, then your User Profile is corrupted. Fix: Corrupt User Profile in Windows 10

That's the personal 'per-user' Start menu, there is another one for all users. The "Windows Accessories" and "Windows Administrative Tools" folders should be in the 'all users' Start menu at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
