windows 7 uxtheme patcher in windows 10 now pc wont reboot

    Hi everyone,

I just had a problem when I tried to install a UXtheme patcher into my windows 10 and accidentally installed a windows 7 one. Now the computer won't start up and all that is left is a black screen. It seems the computer is running, all the peripherals work, keyboard/mouse, usb sockets, etc. Just not the screen ie. VGA drivers. I looked at the system restore window with the list of programs that were affected and had the VGA driver listed so I guess some trick with booting from DVD drive to reinstall the VGA driver hah, but tried that somehow the silly thing won't boot from the DVD drive even after I set it in the BIOS settings. (well it had two options Hard drive and Boot drive). I assumed it was called the Boot drive the DVD drive, yes?

Anyway, whatever. I was wondering if anyone could comprehend about the point where I am at with this thing to guide me through to an end result (and a good one), just to save the time to do a reinstall.

    Thanks.

If you were very lucky, as you have system restore points, you might be able to use one usefully.

I guess you can't get to System Restore via e.g. SHIFT +left click on Restart (I assume you can't see the logon screen either- if you could, you could use the Power button on that screen),

Failing that, boot your PC with a Win 10 bootable medium (you can freely download iso's) and via 'Repair your computer' navigate to options including System Restore. (I note
won't boot from the DVD drive
    - you could use a bootable USB drive).

Please note: we continually urge people to use disk imaging routinely (e.g. Macrium Reflect - free) so they can quickly and easily restore a broken system (hardware faults other than the system disk aside) to a previous working state.

Yeah that all sounds like stuff I'm not too familiar with. Itried System restore and picked a point from it but it failed curiously. When I said I saw the program listed that was affected that was the VGA driver. But it did not restore it because it failed. So I wasn't sure what to do in the end (because I had a double monitor set of adapters on the VGA card, with one of them left unplugged during the madness), I simply plugged it back on and it displayed the running windows. So the problem is fixed. I don't know what happened, maybe it took so long to boot that eventually, once or if the monitors were plugged in, you would see the display of the functioning pc. May7be something stuck on the drivers for the VGA. But look I'm not good with these things, I won't bother to look for opinions, if the thing is working, that is all the news one would need.

    Cheerio.
