Latest update for 1803 bricked my laptop.

There were two updates waiting for me today. An NVIDIA update which installed OK and the laptop ran fine afterwards, then an update for Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. I left it to update and reboot and then I came back to a BSOD. I restarted and I got a message 'Diagnosing PC' then a message that the drive C: must be checked and could take an hour (2TB SDD). After a minute it rebooted and got to the blue window with the spinning beads which spun for 30 seconds and froze. After 2 hours it is still like that. Is it normal to do that? Should I leave it longer? Help needed please.

System Restore has let me down so many times that I keep it turned off now. Macrium images are much more reliable.

Yes, System Restore is a botched abortion.
I've NEVER EVER EVER had it work.

I've tried to restore. It churns and churns ... and reboots ... and then says "sorry, something went wrong".
Worthless.

You might want to see if you can find a reasonable deal to upgrade you licence to the Pro version then you can defer feature upgrades to allow MS time to sort out their software problems.

I'm already on Pro and have had that setting but, stupidly, allowed it to update without thinking. Anyway, I am up and running. I used my recovery disk but didn't do a Reset, I used the command prompt to do a chkdsk /f /r which took about 2 hours after which Windows still said repair needed but I told it to go straight to W10 and it did so without problems.
