Right click on the desktop, select View, uncheck Align to grid.

Some time ago Microsoft had expressed the desire for a clean desktop, seems only the Recycle Bin was desired. One of the icons a couple three versions back that was removed was Computer/My PC/other name for it. The desktop is not static like a picture on the wall but dynamic, always being refreshed/renewed and the icons may flash or change position. Since RAM/Random Access Memory is involved there may not be much one can do without the use of third-party software.

I require a clean desktop, Berton, but never knew Microsoft wanted me to have it so. I'd rather have all my icons in QuickLaunch.

I won't be of much help to you. Just my humble 2 cents...…

What if you change the icon size ; large, medium or small ?

I am notorious with cluttering the desktop with icons. I have "cleaned up" a bit, but still a lot on desktop. I use medium size for my desktop icons. They only move where I want them to move.

Select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives"
Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"
    Click "Apply"

Isn't your desktop full of hidden temporary files?
