    Task View icon does nothing

When I click on the Task View button nothing happens.

FWIW I login with a LOCAL account not a Microsoft Account, so I'm guessing this feecher only works if one logs in with an MS account. Is that right? If so how the halibut is it supposed to work for Domain users?

Which version of W10 are you currently using - I ask because the latest April 2018 update has introduced Timeline to Task View which has changed the way it operates.

See this tutorial for more details: Open and Use Timeline in Windows 10

I'm using the Feature Update 1803 version. The instructions talk in terms of saving the data to your MS ID. But I don't use my MS Id to login at all.

There has been a cumulative update KB4100403 released 3 days ago which might help.

    Cumulative Update KB4100403 Windows 10 v1803 Build 17134.81 - May 23

Alternatively do the keyboard shortcuts work to activate task view: Win + Tab and Alt + Tab

If you are not saving activity history then I would not expect timeline to work and it is probably turned off but the various tasks running on your system should appear.

The 2 key combinations work on one of my computers with Build 17134.81 even though I've removed the icon from the Taskbar.

Timeline only works with a Microsoft Account. On one of my computers with a local account, left clicking the Task View button just shrinks the image on the screen. Right clicking brings up a menu. With a local account, the keyboard shortcut
Win + Tab shrinks the screen image and Alt + Tab puts the screen image in a small box.

Not true. I don't have a Microsoft Account, only local accounts. Timeline works better and goes back further (30 days) with a Microsoft Account, but I can scroll back three days, and a Timeline search finds events up to 15 day back even with a local account.

@Bree -- thanks for the correction! I'll have to check my settings to see if something's not correct as Timeline does nothing on my local account. I appreciate it.

Yes, a number of others have reported it not working too. For me it took about a week before it kicked in, but has kept working since then.

It may depend on precisely which apps you use. Not all apps get recorded. Of the browsers, only Edge seems to appear in Timeline. Firefox, Chrome and even IE don't. Most 'editing' types of apps do, from Notepad to Office, and image 'editors' such as MS Paint. Even my decades-old Paint Shop Pro 7 appears.

    Aha! That makes sense ...

    Thanks
