Cannot proceed past "Choose an account to continue"-dsc_0235.jpg

Haven't tried unplugging things yet except external HD which causes freezing when booting normally.

That's fairly conclusive - the usb keyboard isn't working. Did you try it in all available usb ports?

Do you have (or can borrow) a PS2 keyboard?
I do have somewhere, a USB to PS/2 converter if that should be sufficient?

Well the good news is the PS/2 converter did it. Annoyingly that means every time I come across that menu I'll need to reconnect.

You shouldn't see that menu very often though.

Are the mouse and keyboard anything special? Gaming or wireless? The specs for your board say you have 8 USB 2.0 ports but no USB 3.0 ports so a different mouse/keyboard may work better?

    Glad you have a solution.

Keyboard is a generic USB media one.

I have additional USB ports by way of a Belkin PCI card which I had in a previous machine but since it's probably at least 10 years old I would be surprised if it's USB3.

My current supply of IT stuff is stuff that's been laying about the house. I'm slowly upgrading things.

I booted through safe mode without that prompt. Trouble is, I can't remember why or what I was doing to come across this issue to begin with.
