Cannot proceed past "Choose an account to continue"

I have done a fair amount of research into this already but cannot find anything that resolves this.

When booting into WinRE, Startup repair or Go back to previous version, I am prompted to choose the account.
At this point the keyboard and mouse (USB) are unresponsive.
Both respond in normal mode and in BIOS as there are 2 ports that work in BIOS.

I did have a temporary admin account as part of resolving another issue but have since deleted it and only one account shows.

I'm not sure what to do at this point.

    Welcome to Tenforums @ajm,

Try using a USB2 port if you have one, USB3 support may not be enabled at this point. Try changing USB support in the BIOS, is there a Legacy option? Try changing the BIOS USB options to see if there's one that works.

Are you sure the keyboard really isn't working? It may just be the mouse. Try the Tab key or the arrow keys, these let you navigate the various fields on the screen if you have no mouse, just a keyboard.

That's fairly conclusive - the usb keyboard isn't working. Did you try it in all available usb ports?

Do you have (or can borrow) a PS2 keyboard?

Is this the Gigabyte in your specs? If so, have you seen this?

...This step may vary in different BIOS versions. In my case the PC had a Gigabyte motherboard: Select Interface of Integrated Peripherals from the main BIOS menu and locate the USB Keyboard Support option and set it to Enabled it.

Yes, I’ll probably have to open the case to find the mod no.

No, restart the computer and press the Del key to enter Setup (Bios) Go to Integrated Peripherals and look for Legacy USB, if it is Disabled, using your Arrow and Enter key, Enable it. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
If that allows you to select the user but it still doesn't set your computer back, you will probably have to do a Clean Install.

    Thanks for the tips.

Legacy USB was already on, tried setting to auto but still nothing.

I can can navigate through BIOS fine and the Windows startup selection but stops once i get to account selection.
The only way to escape this is by holding in the power button.

I have only recently rebuilt W10 (could not create new accounts as the profile would not create) so very much want to avoid this. Have had to rebuild 2-3 times since upgrading to W10.

Can you use the onscreen keyboard? (is it available at that point?)

Is there anything else connected to the computer? If yes, disconnect everything except mouse, keyboard and display.

You should be able to read the motherboard model number by removing the side of the computer. Having that info would help. If it's a brand name computer, what is the manufacturer and full model number?

No response from mouse, but is responsive in BIOS.
