    "Choose your keyboard layout" Problem

Hey guys, is there a good tutorial here on how to fix this? I've tried a few different things in the past but wanted to gain some better ideas/knowledge.

I believe that the computer was Upgrading to Windows 10 1803, and on Restart get's the dreaded

Could you please explain what do you mean with "dreaded Choose your keyboard layout" problem? At least I have not a faintest clue about what you mean.

Is keyboard selection not working? What happens when you select your preferred layout?

Sorry Kari, I thought it was a well known issue as seen over the years.
    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/window...-layout-screen

The Lenovo I'm working on now seems to be not fit for the Upgrade even though it is on the official Lenovo list. Three pages of current issues concerning 1803. Some are saying there is not even a new driver for Wifi on these laptops, and in this situation the Wifi is needed.

When I choose the US Layout it just brings me to Advanced Options and will loop back no matter what is chosen. Nothing works from Advanced Options, except use of CMD. No System Restore, Go Back to Previous Version, Startup Repair, none of them work.

I was wondering if I can access the "Windows.old" folder from CMD. But this poses a problem that I'm not familiar with, accessing anything on a Drive with Fast Boot Enabled. Don't know if that needs Disabled in BIOS, or if it will just prompt me to Unmount it? Either way I don't know how to access the Windows.old from CMD.

I'm tempted to do a factory refresh, but cannot figure out if this is possible to do and save files. Or use one of my 1709 install media to do a Refresh and save files. I backed up the files but would like to use the Refresh saving files just in case.

Okay, figured out the "Push Button Reset" for Lenovo HERE page 20.

But I wonder if you have any better ideas, like using that Windows.old Folder, which would take me back to a good point in time with all apps etc. installed? I think this can be done from CMD, so will research that now. Hope I got everything Kari.

    Thanks, FM

I just ran into this problem with one of my clients.
When 1803 fails, the first screen you see is Choose your Keyboard Layout. Then it doesn't get much further.
I tried troubleshooting Restore to do Startup Repair, and Revert to older version but nothing worked, I ended up booting to a USB Flash with 1803. Update keeping files and reverting back also did not work here and I wiped the drive and did clean install of 1803.
If you don't have 1803 on your Flash drive you can download it here: Download Windows 10

Seems there's not much to do, I guess a factory restore from recovery partition or a clean install would be the only options.

If you can get to the command line, Microsoft added a new command line switch to "dism" for rollback to the previous version. See What's new in Windows 10, version 1803 | Microsoft Docs and scroll down to "DISM" if you want to try it.

None of the DISM commands in the linked document work for me in Win10 Pro or Enterprise 1803, or in the Fast Ring IP version, either. Very odd.
Thanks for sharing though: nice of MS to let companies set the expiry timeframe for rollbacks. There should be a GPO for that, too, IMO.

Thank you guys, your time is much appreciated.

I did download 1803 and made USB and DVD install media. I was happy to see it downloaded faster (I think) than it had for older iso's.

I think I may try one more thing, this is because 1803 don't seem to have Wifi Drivers for this machine? I'd better look that up before I use this idea, maybe they have released them since this problem.

Hmm, why does the Wifi Driver download say: WLAN Driver (Athertos, Realtek, Intel)
Are they all in one download Installer, and the Installer choses the correct one?

I think I have figured out which one to look for but cannot find a source for a new driver. The only one is the one on the Lenovo site. Parts page #71 My Lenovo has the "K" in the Model Number, so think it is this one:

THE WIFI DRIVERS THAT MAY BE IN USE:
    7 Intel 3165 1x1AC+BT PCIE M.2 WLAN SW10H24486
    7 Cbt RTL8821AE 1x1AC+BT PCIE M.2 WLAN SW10A11648
    7 Ltn NFA435A 1x1AC+BT PCIE M.2 WLAN SW10K97461
IT MAY BE THIS ONE BELOW BECAUSE OF THE "K"
    LENOVO IDEAPAD 320-17IKB
    7 Ltn NFA435A 1x1AC+BT PCIE M.2 WLAN SW10K97461 Qualcomm Atheros
I'm really at a loss to find drivers for this, does anyone know how? I went to Qualcomm and got nothing. Can't believe at Qualcomm Drivers site there are no drivers?!!!

Sorry Ben, missed your post somehow. That is a really cool new tool! I don't know at this point if I should try it or not? If I do, will have to go back, and then forward again, which is what I wanted, but now that I've wasted the whole day mucking about with this silly MS stuff don't know what to do...Very Tempting. The benefit will be just letting the pc make all the changes and keep all the software installed etc. as opposed to me doing all the work after the Clean Install with 1803?

I'm leaning towards the Clean Install of 1803 but will test that DISM Command out on another pc soon.

I would be interested in knowing what happens either way.
