K-Lite codec pack should fix it as it can even display *.flv thumbnails. Also don't use the built in modern movie player. Use Media Player Classic.

What's wrong with VLC? Everyone recommends it. I've been using it for the last 5 years. I'm not sure about installing that codec pack. I've had my codecs all screwed up in the past and don't what to mess with it again if i don't have too. Does the codecs have something to do with the thumbnails loading?

Videos don't look as sharp and smooth in VLC. Also if you are not sure create a Macrium Image backup first so you can roll back if it makes things worse.

I know the Movies and TV software that comes with windows sucks. it takes forever and a day to even load. I'll take a look at Media Player Classic. i used to use it sometimes. I used the Cinema Edition.

I use VLC and get the thumbnails when choosing medium, large or extra large icons in the Folder containing .mp4 files but not for .mkv and .webm formats so I have to pay attention to what gets downloaded.
